About The Standard

Inclusion, Life, Faith, Confidence

A lot is happening in our world right now, and a lot of division to go along with it. We need spaces where we can come together to just talk. That's what The Standard is. With everything going on we could use a little good news and a little light. That's what The Standard is. At least that's what I hope it is...for you.

Yes, this is a blog that talks about the Bible and church. Yes, Jesus and God will come up in every post. But, trust me there's a point.  God calls us family. Yet, (even in the church)  we forget that. Well, just in case you need it, here's your weekly reminder. Oh, and if you want to learn more about this Christian stuff too, then just keep reading.

As my church's motto goes, "Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here".  If you've been in the faith for years, or don't even go to church this is for you.  No one left behind, because doing life alone is no fun.

Hi! I'm Amanda

Published creative writer, freelance editor,  and creator of The Standard. I live on the coast of Rhode Island with my two cats.  With a Master’s degree in Professional Writing and Communications from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, I have strong writing and communication skills.  As a pastor's daughter, I know a lot about Christianity and the Bible.  And I am always looking to learn more. President of MCLA's Christian Fellowship was my first time combining the two and now here we are at The Standard!

Also, an avid reader, I love a good fantasy, sci-fi, or mystery book.  My favorite authors are N.K. Jemison, V.E. Schwab,  C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien. But don't think I just read and write all day, I'm also a dancer and have a minor in choreography. Hip-hop is my favorite style of dance and music. Yes, Christians can be into hip-hop, rap, and R&B. Terrian, Anike, TobyMac, and Forrest Frank are a few artists I listen to.

Above all else, I am a woman of God. Above all else, I believe He is good, loving, and kind. My prayer is to share His joy with others. The Bible says Jesus came to give life and life abundantly, but it also says we shouldn't do life alone.  I hope that as we open discussions, we can close divides and create a space to uplift each other. Trusting God is a lifelong journey. Don't go alone.
